CAMBRIDGE CENTRAL LIBRARY, CAMBRIDGESHIRE LIBRARIES
Sunday, 6th February 2011 12:58:21
With Ana Maria, at a table in the middle of the library, listening to What's my name from Rihanna. It will remind me last night. Good point. Let's focus.
I have done some research about the TRADITIONAL ORDER OF THE OPENING CREDITS in a film. So basically, the order is the following:
Distribution company: "Distribution Company Presents"
Production company: "A Production Company Name Production"
Director: "A Director's Name Film"
The Distribution Company for my art house film cannot obviously be a very famous one, otherwise the art house film will become a high production. The quality of filming and means won't match…
Film4 Production
Lions Gate Films
Summit Entertainment
Overture Films
IFC Films
Samuel Goldwyn Films
The Weinstein Company/Dimension Films
Magnolia Pictures (I have a very bad memory of this distribution company because I have watched one film which title reminds unknown to my mind, and this film was, in my viewpoint, very bad)
Palm Pictures
Tartan Films
Newmarket Films
Troma Entertainment
First Look Studios
ThinkFilm
Image Entertainment
Yari Film Group
These distribution companies are supposed to be the one used for art house films… I do not really know on what criteria I should base my judgement to choose the right distribution company. I will see this at my next 1-to-1…
The Production Company I might choose could be Comberg Productions, headquarter South-West Region, established in 2008. The description made on Wikipedia is "arthouse production company, often commissioned for party political broadcasts in the UK". This is to be honest the only Indie Production Company I have found on the Internet…
(Note to myself: If I were a famous director, I would probably try to convince American companies producing only christian films to produce my film, proof of the complete failure of my primary catholic school, that tried to teach me the basic ideas of the christian religion… Companies such as Five&Two Pictures, Promenade Pictures or Sherwood Pictures)
The Director's Name will be, no doubt about this, my name: Leopolda Contaux-Bellina !
After this, we are supposed to get the primary or most prominent cast members.
If we have an important starring, they would be listed now. Either way, I list all the main actors.
An advice would be to keep it less than five.
Principal character: Lea Seydoux, played by Ana Maria Nicolaescu
Second roles: Louis Garrel, does not appear in the introduction of the film
Tinie Tempah, played by N'ky Traore
Vincent Cassel, instead of Mathieu Kassovitz.
This is a last minute change. In fact, Mathieu called me this morning to tell me his unavailability... No actually I simply prefer Vincent Cassel than Mathieu Kassovitz. Moreover, Vincent Cassel is more likely to play in drama films with sexual scenes. The most recent example would be in Black Swan directed by Darren Aronofsky with Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel. Vincent's role is in fact turned to sexual thoughts, his character has quite a perverse mind. So I thought that it would fit better than Mathieu Kassovitz, without casting doubt on Mathieu's acting talents !
After this, we reach the title of the film, biggest issue of my project because I have in mind a title, but I am not sure it is a really good title… The one I have for the moment is in french:
"Mademoiselle Alix"
Alix is a french name, I thought about giving my principal character this name… I know, any french person would tell you that it is a really really weird name. But I like it. So I might keep it.
Either way I'm still thinking for another title… I thought about the name of a fictitious nightclub, a real street, the time of a date… Well I still have to think about it.

DAY ONE
Preparation
Friday, 4th February 2011
I have done some spotting in Cambridge, especially on Mill Road:
I've asked the boss of Mickey's if I was allowed to shoot in his establishment. I got a positive answer, I have the authorisation to shoot Sunday morning at 11am. But one of my actor was not available at this time, so we will probably be shooting later in the day, around 5pm…
For the scene of the forgotten coat and bag in the club, I need a couch in a dark and smoke-filled atmosphere… I thought about shooting it in the common room of Scholars front, but it is quite hard to fill the room with smoke. And anyway, this common room does not look vivid. So, upon my media studies teacher Charlie Ritchie's advice, I chose another place for the shooting of this scene: the shisha bar on Mill Road, Rotana… Ana Maria and me already know one of the man who is working there. So the shooting might become easier...
DAY TWO
Shooting
Saturday, 5th February 2011
Tonight, we are shooting ! My Co-Producer Vasco Xu is present and my main actress Ana as well.
I first started in my room at Scholars because I have a red-tainted light… So Ana was wearing a white transparent lace blouse. I used the luminance of this red light on the fabric to obtain a very cosy and warm atmosphere. Then I filmed from her collar/nape of the neck until her breasts. Her very dark hair made the contrast with the blouse. I am quite satisfied with the result I got. I now need to edit this part. I thought about putting it between scenes of the party/night. Very slow sequences, fade to black at the beginning and at the end of the scene.
Then I filmed some parts in Mickey's. I have a close-up on ice-cubes in yellow drinks with a light under the glass. I honestly adore the result we got. Played slowly, the final result of this sequence should be quite satisfying !
We used the flash of Vasco's phone quite a lot: through the drink, under glasses, to highlight some items I wanted to shoot in the pub.
Vasco filmed the scene "memories of last night": Ana and me are dancing and the scene only shows our bodies: no face! Impersonal way of filming: these bodies could be anyone's. We recognise the lace blouse though. Which makes us recognise the main character's presence in the scene…
I also have a close-up on the ring-pull of the RedBull can when the drink is pouring into the glass. I might colourise this sequence because the colours are not intense enough.
DAY THREE
Editing
Sunday, 6th February
I tried to buy a special firewire that fits my computer to connect the camera and put the video on it but unfortunately I could not find one. So I texted my media teacher in the middle of this Sunday afternoon. Hopefully he was completing the reports at Tenison, so I went there for him to give me a firewire for the camera. So I put all the footage on my computer and i am now waiting to meet my Co-producer Vasco to start editing our film.
I thought a bit about this production ant the pattern of the introduction might be this one below.
We will be editing these footage
