Audience research

Our audience research will be under the form of a questionnaire that we will submit to a few students, as well Media students as other students; and to grown-ups such as my parents !
In fact, the students responding to the questionnaire are 17-21 years old. My parents are 50-55 years old.
We will then analyse the data collected, our audience target will be identified and we will be able to finalise our targeting.
The last question about 'foreign film or not' will help us to decide if we put the film into English or if I keep it in my mother tongue, French. Our film being supposed to be an art house film, being in a foreign language would add originality and charm.

QUESTIONNAIRE

Narrative: see above for the description of the general idea of the film

1. Would you pay a cinema ticket to watch this film?
2. Do you like drama?
3. Will the starring/cast influence your choice of watching this film?
4. According to the narrative, would you expect a high-production value or a art house film?
5. Would you mind seeing a gay relationship in this movie?
6. Are you interested in the view the director could give about the modern type of relationships?
7. Would you mind if this movie was a foreign film? If there were under titles ?

These are the responses we collected through our questionnaire.

Ana, AS-Student, 18 years old
"I would pay to watch this film eventhough it's not my usual genre. I like drama though. The starring could probably influence my choice of watching this film but not necessarily, even less if they are foreign actors, french in that case. I'd probably expect an art house film and I wouldn't mind really if the film was subtitled, as long as the subtitles are accurate. I generally find subtitles annoying, though. A gay relationship in the film wouldn't influence my opinion of the film as a whole actually. No problem for helping! Peace."

Sammy, AS-Student, Media student, 17 years old
"The narrative doesn't make me feel like paying a cinema ticket to watch this film even if I like drama. The starring would definitely influence my choice of watching this film or not. I'd expect the film to be an art house movie and I'd be interested in the view the director could give on the modern types of relationship. If I could choose I wouldn't like to see a gay relationship in a film... Otherwise I wouldn't mind if the film was in a foreign language and if it was subtitled."

Maurice, AS-Student, 21 years old
"I would watch the film actually, because the story seems to be interesting. Furthermore and to be honest, the narrative looks like an intense sexual drama story. The short introduction has persuaded me to watch this film! I like drama but I also like action movies. The starring is one important factor, I'd like to see famous actors who are attractive. I might then expect a high-production value. I have nothing against gay relationships at all. However I would not prefer to see these in movies, especially in this one. Well, debating on modern types of relationships has become quite common in films nowadays. According to a survey people want to see such stories in films. So why not? I would not mind if the film was a foreign one. It has to be subtitled in English though, so that everyone can have an easier access to it."

Josiane, Mother, 50 years old
"I would, by curiosity, pay to watch this film and because I like drama. The starring will influence my choice, I particularly like the actors, eventhough Lea Seydoux is really not one of my preferred actress! I'd rather see an art house production for this film... The view you [Leopolda] could give on modern relationships would interest me really! I wouldn't mind seeing a gay relationship and I actually prefer films in their original version rather than translated version. So subtitles don't bother me."

Didier, Father, 55 years old
"I would definitely pay to watch this film! I want to know the end... Moreover I really like drama and the starring, which is quite a good one in your [Leopolda's] film, will influence my choice. Such a film requires gifted actors, as I would rather prefer an art house production. I would absolutely not mind the presence of a gay relationship in the film, even more in such one! Your view on modern relationships would be of great interest to me indeed. I think the charm of a foreign movie would arouse my curiosity and would make me feel like watching a film!"

Respondents to our questionnaire are mainly middle/upper-class ethnic majority people. The only difference between parents and students are the age: around 30 years between the two generations!
